HOUSEMARKET S.A. was established in 2000 as subsidiary company of FOURLIS Group in order to operate in the retail furnishings sector. The Group at end of 1999 received the franchise rights of IKEA trademark from the multinational swedish IKEA Company and received the exclusive rights to develop and operate IKEA stores and sale IKEA products, provide cateing services in Greece and to provide home furnishings products that are affordable to the many people, not just the few. This is achieved  by combining function, quality, design and value - always with sustainability in mind. The IKEA Concept exists in every part of our company, from design, sourcing, packing and distributing through to our business model. Our aim is to help more people live a better life at home.


In 2001 the first IKEA store in Thessaloniki opened its doors to Greek consumers. In a retail area of 20.000 sq.m. offering 6.500 products, IKEA offered a new experience to the Greek Market. In an area located only eight kilometers from the city center, the location provided among others catering services, playground, Swedish food market and parking of 2.500 lots, IKEA store in Thessaloniki attacted in the first year of operation 1.5 million visitors.


In April 2004, the first IKEA store opened in Athens in the retail park of the Athens International Airport with a retail area of 25.000 sq.m


In 2007, the inauguration of the first IKEA store in Nicosia took place while the second IKEA store in Athens and fourth in total was opened on 26 March 2008. In October 2009 the new IKEA store in Larissa opened its doors and by the end of the decade in 2010, FOURLIS Group added a new IKEA store in Ioannina (Greece).

House Market Bulgaria A.D. was established in Bulgaria and a new frachise agreement with IKEA was signed in order to develop and operate IKEA stores in the country. In July 2008, the company acquired a land plot of 60.000 sq.m. in the center of Sofia, in order to construct and develop the first IKEA store in Sofia.


2010 until today

In September 2011, the first IKEA store in Sofia Bulgaria was inagurated. This is the largest IKEA store operated by the Group and it has a retail area of 26.370 sq.m.


The Group in collaboration the the master franchisor Interikea Systems B.V. decided to open the so-called Pick-Up Points by making possible for consumers living far from the cities where stores are operating to visit small size showrooms with a variety of the most representative products, a number of inspirational solutions and competent staff which is ready to assist with any questions that a visitor can have and place an order. In the IKEA Pick Up Point the visitor can also find a small variety of home accessories available for immediate purchase. With the exception of a few articles, the entire IKEA product range available on the e-commerce website can be purchased through the IKEA Pick Up Point.


At the end of 2019 ten pick-up points are operating. Six in Greece (Rhodes, Patras, Chania, Heraklion, Komotini, Kalamata), three in Bulgaria (Varna, Burgas and Plovdiv) and one in Cyprus (Limassol).
